Week 11 - Card Game Review
When we demoed Universal Monsters for our class we got a great response from them viewing us play. The questions that were asked were just trying to understand our mechanics rather than why is this part of the game or similar questions. We got good feedback on the designs of our cards, which we split between members. People commented on the font used on the cards being stylish and easy to read as well as our color coordination helping differentiate types of cards. While the audience weren’t all able to play and test our game, I believe from the questions they asked they had a good grasp on our rules and the loop that our game consisted of.
In the what are we doing, mechanics section of Ernest’s article I think was an important point of design for our team. We tried to simplify the explanation of what makes the game to better wrap their heads around and set expectations for the gameplay.
Also, in the section describing Variants we experimented several times throughout the design process on new ways to win our game, and it was important to come to a consensus and a final win condition because having as many as we brainstormed could easily confuse new players.
